Chapter Thirteen: Anger

Julian had promised Millie a lot that night. Promised things he had every intention of fulfilling. But the next morning as they awoke, he knew it was time to face the music. He had no idea how true that was.

Julian went with Millie to check on Mason, wanting to make sure he was okay after his injuries. Despite the pain he was still in, several changes throughout the night had helped significantly.

It wasn’t the physical pain that Julian was worried about when Mason caught their scent. The hurt that had spread across his face the moment that realization hit was enough to dig into Julian. The leopard walled up soon after, hardly suppressing his thunderous growl, his hazel eyes swirling into an amber hue as he stormed past them to the car, refusing to speak to either of them the entire remainder of the drive.

Mason finding out without them actually having a chance to tell him was so difficult for her. It was part of the curse when it came to being a supernatural. Everyone knew everything. Didn’t matter how hard they tried to prevent scents and claims from being noticed.

Every time they pulled in to rest or grab food, she offered to get whatever Mason wanted but he ignored her. The silent treatment was slowly killing her, pushing her closer and closer to the breaking point.

Mason had been the first one she wanted to share every part of her emotional side with. When they entered that basement two nights ago, she wanted to give him everything she had given Julian but things had not gone as planned. Then Julian showed up at her hotel room, taking her off guard when those admissions spilled out.

This was one situation Millie didn’t have a plan for, had absolutely no idea how to navigate. So for the moment, she was doing the best she could.

What would Jax say about it all when he knew they jumped without any form of serious conversation?

Several hours later, they pulled up to the safe house. Julian could see Jake with Scarlett in his arms as they pulled up, already waiting for them. He knew Jax and the kids had been keeping in contact with Millie and was thankful they were okay. But how long was he going to remain alive when Jax found out?

As they arrived and exited the vehicle, Jax’s smile faded immediately. He could not hurt him in a fight, he had tried before, but after knowing what he had done with his wife? Seeing those bite marks? That was an entirely different story.

Julian walked over towards the group, Jake ignoring him altogether as he moved towards the car with Scarlett, desperate to see their mother.

Relief flooded her when they finally pulled into the driveway of their new home and her eyes landed on Jax and the kids. Thank fuck. Yes, she had been able to keep contact with them but that was so different than seeing them in person to make sure they were still alive.
